REX BRANDT 1914-2000 Rex Brandt was born in San Diego, California. His family moved to Riverside, California in the early 1920s. Brandt began painting with watercolors at about age sixteen. He attended the Chouinard Art Institute while still in high school and later continued his art education at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his way by painting for the National Park Service. During the 1930s Brandt taught art at Riverside Community College while producing Regionalist style watercolors of the Southern California landscape. After the 1940s, he painted many harbor and beach scenes in abstract and cubistic styles. He and Phil Dike co-founded the Brandt-Dike Summer School of Painting at Corona Del Mar, California. Brandt wrote eleven books on watercolor painting and contributed to twelve more on the same subject. His illustrations have appeared in many nationally-distributed magazines. He made six educational films and produced several large murals. Brandt's paintings were included in the California Group exhibitions. He is recognized as one of the most skilled watercolor artists who worked on the West Coast. He was president of the California Water Color Society, vice-president of the American Watercolor Society and a director of the W.P.A, art project in the 1930s. And so we grieve with communities of color in our city, our country and the world, for the death of George Floyd and all the others before him who have been disadvantaged, suffered and died because of the color of their skin. As we have seen over the past few weeks, collective grief can be channeled into positive actions that change institutions and systems to create a more just society. CCMA intends to be part of that change. Events at the Museum No events are currently scheduled. Art at Airport CCMA is managing the public art program at Ontario International Airport.
