In the catalogue for the exhibit it stated, "Two paintings will be purchased this year – an oil and a watercolor. In ten years we fully expect to have-in Chaffey’s Permanent Collection the finest showing of contemporary American art on the Pacific Coast”. The paintings in this exhibit are the purchase prize award winners and paintings that were gifted by artists to Chaffey during the first ten years.

Bill Moore, Lynda Pasztor and Larry White.

Slot Canyon: Nature’s Abstract Art
Photography by Nancy and Paul Speaker

Formed by flash floods rushing through cracks in slickrock sandstone, slot canyons can be less than three feet across and over 100 feet deep. Hidden away, they can be dangerous, even deadly. But the walls have interesting textures and swirling shapes resembling abstract art. When the interplay of light and shadow is introduced, the beauty can be both an intimate and awe-inspiring visual experience.

The Chaffey Community Museum of Art was founded in the spring of 1941 by Francis and Helen Line of Ontario, California in memory of their daughter Barbara who died of leukemia at the age of eight. The Permanent Collection began with nine paintings now designated as the Barbara Line Memorial Collection. The Lines wanted to stimulate interest in and enjoyment of art in the Chaffey Community, which at the time was roughly defined as the eastern part of Los Angeles County and the western part of San Bernardino County. Much of the geographic area had been influenced by founder and early pioneer George W. Chaffey.

The exhibit seeks to showcase and celebrate artists who bring a lifetime of experience and experiences to their work.

California Places and Faces
Mark Wood

Spotlight Gallery
I have great memories of growing up in California: living in Napa while in grade school; in Thousand Oaks during junior high and high school; and in Pasadena while attending Art Center College of Design. I've literally driven thousands of miles throughout the state. Almost everywhere I go in California brings back pleasant memories, which is what I hope my California do for others who appreciate this beautiful state. I believe drawing or painting people is the best way to practice and improve as an artist. It requires observational skills and learning how to use the medium the artist has chosen to work in. The paintings here are a glimpse into the artists’ studio.
