Dee Marcellus Cole – 2016 Artist of the Year

The whimsy paper-mâché sculptures of Dee Marcellus Cole have been exhibited in over thirty one person shows and museums throughout the United States. Cole has traveled to South and Central America, Mexico, Tonga, Australia and Indonesia to study folk art and to document carnivals.

The whimsy paper mache sculptures of Dee Marcellus Cole have been exhibited in over thirty one person shows and museums throughout the United States. Cole has traveled to South and Central America, Mexico, Tonga, Australia and Indonesia to study folk art and to document carnivals.

Cole taught art for fourteen years at the University of LaVerne. She has been an Artist in Residence for San Bernardino County. In 2004 she was conference keynote speaker for The California Art Educators Association. She has given many workshops and has been a juror and curator. Cole has a M. A. from Claremont Graduate University.

HGTV featured her home and studio on the Awesome Interiors program. She demonstrated her artwork on HGTV’s Carol Duval Show.

Her art is in many collections in the United States and Europe. May people have toured her home and studio. She calls these tours, “Dee Tours”.

Cole was a member of Chaffey Community Art Association in the 1960’s and her husband, Jeff Cole, was president in the 1970’s. Since 1984 she has been involved in the Pomona Art Colony and the dA Center for the Arts. She is the self appointed “Goddess of Pomona”, nuttier and fruitier.
